Thank you for stopping in.  We are sure that you will find that Lady and the Fool is the finest "renaissance clothing" creator around.  With award winning quality costumes and reasonable prices we have clothed Renaissance Faire participants, visitors and actors for the last 24 years.  Lady and the Fool is owned and operated by Debbie and David Russ

We always strive to create "clothing" instead of "costumes" with a strong focus on Renaissance period authenticity.  Our product has been put through the test of fire, being abused by Renaissance Faire Participants, and our rental customers. Our patterns have eventually become better, and stronger for it. This is true right down to the materials that are used in creating our renaissance clothing. We have seen what works and what will last, and we stick with it. In some cases this increased our manufacturing cost, but we did not pass that cost on to the customer. All of this brings us a very strong pride and trust in our product line that all stems from Lady and the Fool's expertise and commitment to:  authenticity and quality.

We have created over 5000 Original or Full Replica costumes in our Fantasyland Costume Company all of which are for rent.  Over 200 of these rentals  are 16th Century
                                   Renaissance

Customer comments:

In this day of computer voices and web pages, it was staggering to find a real person as incredible as your employee Debbie Parks Russ. My sons (8 and 12 years old) and I are faire goers and have been for years. This year we decided that we would be participants instead of just patrons. This meant adherence to rules for costuming. While searching the internet , we located 2-3 companies who provided parts to costumes we thought we needed. Our first phone calls were met with referrals back to the websites - no help at all.

Like a breath of fresh air, she worked with us patiently and without sending us away to fend for ourselves. She took time to explain terms like 'faire approved' and 'doublet' and then listened to our wants and desires and made suggestions in return. She used her vast experience to advise us on things like watching out for my son' growth. She took time to learn who we were, which boy wanted what colors and even made extra phone calls to offer new ideas and to verify we wanted what she was offering.
When our box of goodies arrived, (fairly priced I may add!) she had gone so far as to add a note that we should test fit our items and she would exchange anything as needed. It was how a vendor should be in a perfect world!

We are now four weekends into the Nor-Cal Renaissance Faire as participants. Needless to say, this could only have happened if we had met the complicated rules for approved attire. We were approved on our first review!  James Shimota & Sons
